Readers of The Daily Telegraph will have noticed that on Saturday 24th March 2007 Herm Island had a mention in the travel section. A panellist of four travel experts (Jennifer Cox, travel writer and broadcaster; Fred Mawer, travel journalist; Joanna Symons, Telegraph Travel commissioning editor; Philip Hamilton-Grierson, of the tour operator Cox & Kings) named their favourite beaches – from pristine white sands to rugged coastlines. “Trying to define a great beach is a tricky business. One person's sun-kissed sandbar is another's sun-baked hell; isolated coves can lead as easily to fidgety boredom as to romantic bliss. But with their vast experience of foreign shores, our panel have come up with an eclectic list.”
Shell Beach is one of five beaches worldwide to be included in the ‘Remote beach’ section and is described as being “a stunning strand backing on to low dunes, lapped by the clearest of waters, and covered with strips of crunched-up pink and golden shells. The beach's café sells a guide to the shells found there.”
Travel journalist, Fred Mawer, visited Herm in 2005 and wrote an article which appeared in The Daily Telegraph. His short visit to Herm obviously made a big impression on him!
