Herm’s Seagull campsite has made it into the top 50 campsites in the British Isles according to the Guardian newspaper’s ‘Guide to Camping’. The article described the site as being completely family-orientated and Adrian Heyworth said the description was spot on. ‘There are few campsites that have the scenic quality of Seagull,’ he said. ‘We discourage noisy people from coming. Groups of young singletons are not welcome.’
The guide said the best thing about the site was the island itself, praising it as being ‘free from cars and blessed with unspoilt beaches and abundant wildlife’.
A lot of work has been done to make the campsite picturesque. ‘It used to be a very windy site. Over the years there has been extensive planting of trees and hedges in the area and consequently it is a wonderful site with lovely views of Sark,’ said Adrian.
Bookings for the coming season are very good as camping has had a bit of a revival recently. Adrian describes Herm camping as not being sophisticated but offers good clean facilities – people come for the experience of the whole island.
