Day Trips

A visit to the Channel Islands would not be complete without a trip to Herm.

Just a 20 minute boat ride from St Peter Port and you are transported to another world.  No cars, no crowds, no hurries.  Wear sturdy shoes and walk the coastal path around the island. Watch flocks of terns, puffins and migratory birds whilst enjoying the natural splendour of the island with its stunning array of plants and flowers.

Hire a deckchair and spend the day relaxing on Shell Beach or Belvoir Bay with a freshly made sandwich or Herm ice cream from one of the beach café’s.

Have a restorative pint at The Mermaid Tavern which offers a range of hot and cold meals from its outdoor barbeque and includes a special children’s menu.

Perhaps have a seafood lunch at the Hotel restaurant looking across manicured lawns to the sea just yards away.  If you prefer you can find a secluded spot and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing picnic.

Spend time browsing in Herm’s gift shops.  Set in a Mediterranean style piazza the shops are an Aladdin’s cave of interesting and good value items.  From postcards to chocolates, beach goods, jewellery and clothes you are sure to find a gift or souvenir to please.

Get a map and explore the island and its history.  Visit the tiny 11th century chapel with its beautiful stained glass windows commissioned by Peter and Jenny Wood.  Discover Neolithic tombs, oxen shoeing stocks that date back to the residency of Trappist monks in the 1800’s and one of the smallest prisons in the world.

Herm is an island of infinite possibilities.  Swim, sunbathe, eat, relax, walk and discover an island that you will want or return to again and again.
