Guernsey’s smallest island is a mile-and-a-half long by half-a-mile wide. Just a twenty-minute ferry journey away from Guernsey, Herm is a perfect mix of sand dunes, long golden beaches, hidden bays, cliff walks and seabreeze. A couple of hours spent relaxing on Shell Beach or Belvoir Bay will feel like a whole day and a hike around the cliffs will feel like a stroll – that’s the magic of Herm: the perfect escape from everyday life.
As you approach Herm you will see the long sweep of sand which seems to run the length of the island. It is actually three beaches, all situated to the west of the 'Harbour Village'. They are Bears Beach, Fishermans Beach and Harbour Beach. You will also spot the path which weaves along the front towards the common. Over the hill to the left is Shell Beach, rich in tiny shells in colours ranging from fuschia pink to gold. To the south-east end of the harbour is The White House Hotel with its palm-fringed gardens.
As your boat inches closer, Herm begins to unravel some of its secrets and charms.
